Spontaneous musical improvisation
on classical works

What is it about ?

Turn on your CD of the 5th Symphony of Tchaïkovski or other favorite, sit at your piano and improvise along as the record plays...

It is about a musical concept dealing with classical music never been tried and officialized which consists in improvising with an instrument while listening to great Composer's works.

In this peculiar concept, only the auditive suggestion of the sound produced by those works give rise to a sensible and spontaneous reaction which drives to an improvisation melting into them. There are no learned or memorized references. The synthetic mind of the improvisor, his musical sensitivity and the education of his "perfect pr relative pitch" ear produce this personal version or musical vision.

To be natural and spontaneous, this type of improvisation cannot be the result of a previous work, like it is the case of an improvisation alone on a given theme as long as you have a good level. This type of improvisation is then reachable to people with a good level of theorical knowledge in harmony, like the best students in Conservatory and their teachers interested by this discipline, organ players and also composers themselves.

As a matter of fact, when one improvises not alone but while listening for example to a piano concerto of Prokoviev or else, it is absolutly impossible to use "first of all" one's knowledge to put "afterwards" one's own notes. The demands to execute a personal and spontaneous improvisation are such that they do not give time for that.

This methode can allow certain persons who have instinctive musical abilities in the first place to start playing an instrument and to stay motivated, in order to then start the learning of the theory, which they would never have begun if they hadn't tried this methode before.

(Other job, not enough time for musical studies or not enough motivation eventhough they are "born musicians").

Those persons, by definition beginners can encounter right away, depending on their given abilities, a wonderfull feeling of grace and fullfilment in this personal and intimate dialogue which they have with the great Composers, when they would have never had the ability to play the scores...

The major aspects in this learning process (conditions and obstacle) are listed in the synopsis of the chapter on the question and can be obtained with the CD of demonstration (see "Pédagogy" chapter).
